A typical day in the life of the frugal Mom!

First of all, I would just like to say hello to everyone. This is my first attempt at a blog, so bear with me....


Okay, here's an example of how a typical day of saving can go:

1. On the way home from work I stopped at and met a woman who works at the church behind my house and picked up a set of computer speakers that I had arranged through Freecycle.org


2. Went home finished cutting out a few coupons, grabbed my Walgreen's ad, and my daughter.



3. Met another lady who had contacte dme through wishuponahero.com and picked up some stocking stuffers, a Coke stuffed polar bear, and some clothes for my daughter, and a few pairs of shorts and jeans for my significant other. (he wears out clothes so fast!!)


4. Went to Penny Wise, a local bent and dent store in Olive Branch, bought five bags of groceries for only $22! - I picked up some snacks for my dd's lunch: 1 box of Cheese Nips 100 Calorie snacks, only $1.49, Handy Snacks 5/$1.00, breakfast cereal bars $.15 ea., Ocean cran-apple juice light $1.49, Starkist tuna pouch $.99, Teriyaki marinated salmon steak pouch $1.29, family size Kraft Ranch dressing, fresh, no preservatives variety $1.49, Peanut butter Capt. Crunch $1.49, and much more!!


5. Went to Walgreen's to scoop this week's deals. I know, you're probally thinking save money at Walgreen's? Well, that's right but it takes some effort. First, I match up the week's ad with their rebate program and the paper coupons, then I try to find online macturer coupons also. So, here's what today's trip looked like:

1. Excedrin Extra Strength Express Gels 40ct. reg. price $6.99

on sale 2/$6.99 - (2 )$2.00/1 mfc = 2/$2.99 (savings of $10.99, 79%) and if you've never tried these, they are a miracle worker!

2. Scott or Cottonelle 4roll pk 2/$5 - $1.00/1 Scott mfc - $.50/1 Cottonelle mfc= 2/$3.50

3. CoffeeMate liquid creamer on sale bogo 2/$2.49 - $1.50/2 mfc = 2/$1.00 (yummy!)

4. Domino Sugar 5lb. bag $1.99 - $.50/1 mfc = $1.49

5. Libby canned pumpkin on sale $.99 - $.50/2 mfc = 2/$1.50

6. Nabisco pie crusts on sale for bogo @ 2.99 (needed it for donation required at daughter's school, so nw I have one to use, and the donation is free)

7. Arm & Hammer laundry detergent reg. price $6.99

on sale 2/6.99 - (2) $1.00/1 mfc = 2/$4.99 (wow! 2.50 for name brand detergent! a savings of 65%)

8. Quaker quick 1 min oats on sale BOGO 2/$2.79

9. Betty Crocker frosting, cake mix, or brownies on sale $.99 - $.55mfc = $.44

10. Eagle Brand condensed sweetened milk reg. $3.29 on sale $1.79 -$.50MFC = $1.29

11. Christemas red & green little tumblers w/ designs on sale 8/$1 (to send w/ daughter to class party)

12. Glade spray $.99 - $1.00 mfc = ($.01)

13. Hallmark wrapping paper on sale BOG2!! 3/$1.99!

14. Assorted bows, tissue paper, gift tags, BOG2 3/$.99!!

15. Scotch magic tape BOGO 2/$1.29!

16. baking soda, salt, baking powder, or corn starch 2/$.99
(find a Clabber girl coupon from paper -$1.00/2= free)

17. Progresso soups 4/$5.00 - $1.00/3 = 3/2.75

Total original retail price $126.77 - $58.25 Walgreen's savings advertised & in-ad coupons - $13.85 MFC = $54.67 a total of $72.10 in savings!

After a few strange looks from the young cashier and few irritated looks in line we were out the door! As if it was my fault they only had one cashier last night!

Use a Book It! certificate which are available to schools an homeschoolers = FREE!

Then on to Kroger!
Carnation evaporated milk 10/$10 buy any 10 items from a large list of products get $5 off instantly - (3) $1.00/3 MFC = 10/$2.00 = $.20 a can !!!

Pick up pizza.
Go home and start unloading!!
